Rust prevention of large Marine engine parts in process
The manufacturing process of large Marine diesel engine is complicated, and it often takes weeks or even months to process one part, so the storage time between processes is relatively long. Metal parts can easily oxidize when exposed to air, and engine parts are expensive, so Branneau recommends using effective rust prevention measures to prevent corrosion.
Engine parts such as crankshaft, connecting rod, camshaft, crankshaft seat and so on are mostly castings. Cast iron is easy to rust, and the usual treatment is to coat antirust grease, and then cover the plastic bag outside the workpiece. Antirust grease is a thick, buttery, oily substance. Because the oil film is very thick, it can provide better rust protection. However, oil odor, easy to absorb dust, so when coating antirust oil, operators often suffer. Grease is not compatible with most diesel and oil, so it must be removed before assembly, while general cleaning agents are difficult to remove, and multiple cleaning increases the cost.
